This superb map of the London Underground was created by FH Stingemore a trained draughtsman who joined the Underground Group in around 1919. He produced his first edition of his tube map in 1925 and produced various updated iterations as lines and stations were added. His early maps didn't place the network in context to its geographical surroundings. This edition 1932 edition however places the lines and stations into the landscape, you can see the various parks, roads and the overland railways (in muted grey) thus making it easier to orientate oneself rather than viewing an abstract network. I like this approach and believe it looks more visually appealing. However the following year saw Henry Beck publish the first of his Tube network diagrams which was to become the de facto standard from which the modern day Underground map is derived.
This is a highly sought-after work and is sure to form an interesting conversation piece to any living room. This piece looks stunning mounted as shown in our 20" x 16" framed edition.
