This is an exceptionally rare map produced by esteemed cartographer Robert Morden created around 1695. Although the original was made in the 17th century, Morden takes as his subject Britain under the Romans and faithfully re-creates a wonderful map as Britain was under Roman rule. This handsome map features ancient British tribes such as the Parisi and the famous Iceni who revolted against Roman rule led by Boudica in 60-61 AD.
This work features many settlements with corresponding names in Latin. Londinium - London, Eboracum - York and Leucarum - Swansea are but a few to get you started on your traversal through Roman Britain.
Hadrian's Wall is clearly depicted and various associated forts are marked.
There is a beautiful, decorative title cartouche emblazoned in the top left corner.
This is truly a fascinating map and is sure to form a centre piece and conversation starter in any living room. It looks stunning mounted and is a much sought after work.
