This classic piece was produced by John Speed the best known mapmaker of the Stuart period. This wonderful decorative map was produced over 400 years since. Unlike England, Wales and Ireland, Speed only produced one map of Scotland. This was because a fellow cartographer Timothy Pont had already begun surveying a comprehensive study of Scotland and thus Speed didn't want to duplicate such work. The map here shown is an antique reproduction of the original hand coloured map and therefore each original map is in itself unique.

Of Scotland Speed noted on the reverse of his map in the 1611 The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine "Scotland is fair and spacious and is so well provided with fish, fowl and cattle and corn so plenteous that it supplieth other countries in their want."

This is a highly sought after work and is sure to form an interesting conversation piece to any living room. This piece looks stunning mounted.
