This classic piece was produced by John Speed the best known mapmaker of the Stuart period. It is a wonderful example of a decorative county map that was produced over 400 years since. This is an antique reproduction of the original hand coloured map and therefore each original map is in itself unique.

The deep valley of the Tamar gives Cornwall a sense of remoteness and separation. The map reveals a county of innumerable ports and havens and many small rivers. The sea either dominates or permeates every aspect of the peninsula.

The unsuitability of the county to extensive and profitable farming led to Cornwall being settled by hamlets and scattered farmsteads rather than nucleated villages found else where in England. This gave Cornwall a unique appearance and character and has some of England's most beautiful scenery.

Place name spellings are in Olde Worlde Englyshe and it is interesting note these differences such as the British See!

A classic work that creates a centrepiece for any home and would look stunning framed. This print is produced on premium heavyweight 180/230 gsm paper and uses the finest quality inks that will not fade or smudge.

A light digital clean has been applied to remove some of the marks and signs of ageing whilst allowing the work to retain the character of the original.
