This fascinating and beautifully produced work was based on the works of Alexander Humboldt (1769-1859). Published in W.K. Johnston’s Physical Atlas (1848) Humboldt work is meticulously researched, fascinatingly detailed and beautifully presented with various illustrations of mountain ranges, flora and fauna. Humboldt had a thirst for knowledge and wanted to discover as much of the world as possible. His chief interests were botany, geology, climate change, zoology and anthropology. Between 1799 and 1804 he extensively explored the Americas and described them for the first time from a modern Western scientific point of view.

This global study sub-divided the world into 25 phyto-geographical regions as first detailed by Schouw. Based upon this Humboldt studied the distribution of plants throughout the world and the impact that these different climatic and geological zones had on the types of plants that such environments could support.

This is a beautifully illustrated piece and a highly sought-after work and is sure to form an interesting conversation piece to any living room. This piece looks stunning mounted as shown in our 20" x 16" framed edition.
