This superb, colourful railway map was created by GW Bacon. Born in New York State, George Washington Bacon moved to London in 1861 establishing a number of different businesses.

This particular map shows all the railways and stations in Scotland and also includes navigable rivers, canals and principal roads. Unfortunately the map in not dated but I believe it to be from the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The map features the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland Isles. There are two inset maps showings the environs of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

I would suggest that if you are wanting the map for research purposes to purchase the 32"x24" map as some place names and the Glasgow and Edinburgh maps are difficult to decipher at the smaller sizes. If you are wanting the map more for decorative purposes then the 20x16 print is ideal, larger place names are legible and this is a lovely bright print.

This is a highly sought-after work and is sure to form an interesting conversation piece to any living room. This piece looks stunning mounted as shown in our 20" x 16" framed edition.
