This beautiful hand coloured map of Old Rome was created by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg in 1572. Taken from the masterful Civitates Orbis Terrarum this work shows Rome from around 1550 and how it would have appeared should Shakespeare have visited. Rome is shown surrounded by city walls and within are contained the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, and the Forum Romanum. Taken from a bird's eye perspective the River Tiber can be seen flowing in a north to south path.
