This superbly comprehensive map was produced by George Bradshaw (1800-1853) the same person who the Bradshaw's railway guides were based on and famed by Michael Portillo. The Railway guides first started appearing in 1839 but before then Bradshaw produced this fascinating map of the canal network of the north and north-west of England in 1830. A Quaker, George was born in Salford and set up his own engraving and printing firm in Manchester in 1822. This particular map charts the canals in the counties of Lancaster, York, Derby and Chester.

A total of 29 canals and navigations are detailed including the Leeds and Liverpool, Huddersfield, Rochdale, Calder Hebble, Sankey and Bridgewater. This map includes an inscription dedicating the work to Thomas Telford President of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

This work was originally produced on a hard-backed linen map which folded into 12 pieces. I have digitally re-joined the map taking out those gaps and making the piece whole again. I have cleaned much of the stainage but kept the look and feel of the original.

This classic work creates a centrepiece for any home and would look stunning framed (not included). This print is produced on premium heavyweight 230 gsm paper and uses the finest quality inks that will not fade or smudge for many decades to come.
