Drawn and engraved by Charles Thomson this wonderful map of Edinburgh and its vicinity was published by Robert Hamilton in 1827. The map is surrounded by a total of eighteen superb vignettes including the Castle, Nelson's Monument, Holyroodhouse, Heriot's Hospital and the Theatre Royal. An inset map also shows the Environs of Edinburgh. This is a charming piece and is a little different from your run of the mill Edinburgh prints because of the number of illustrations. On the 20x16 print some of the smaller writing is a little difficult to read clearly. I also have the 1844 SDUK Edinburgh print https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/817075097 which has a more easily readable map but few illustrations.
This is a highly sought-after work and is sure to form an interesting conversation piece to any living room. This piece looks stunning mounted as shown in our 20" x 16" framed edition.
