This striking piece was created by the renowned artisan and engraver John Rapkin. This 1854 work shows Scotland's largest city in stunning detail. Areas of interest include the Low and High Green, Hunterean Museum, Port Dundas Distillery, Forth and Clyde Canal
By the 1850s Glasgow was a well established and flourishing centre of both commerce and industry. The Govan area of the city would become world famous for its ship building industry with Robert Napier (1791-1876) 'the father of shipbuilding on the Clyde' setting the benchmark for future generations.
