This Flat Earth Map by Monte Urbano is an interesting and informative representation of the flat Earth model, as seen through the eyes of its adherents. It features a detailed topographic map, with accurate dimensions, measurements, and locations. Perfect for studying geography and understanding the flat Earth theory.
Urbano created this famous Italian Renaissance map in 1587 in Milan. He was a nobleman and his Coat of Arms are visible on this piece. This map has many illustrations upon it including fantastical creatures such as unicorns, centaurs, mermaids, griffins, and even a monstrous bird that carries an elephant!! Urbano's work covers geography, art, science and history in one fascinating work. It was in fact originally a collection of 60 individual sheets that have been painstakingly digitally stitched back together (thankfully not by me though). This map would be 10 feet square if printed out at its original scale. Obviously to shrink this work down into a 24 inch square print some of the inscriptions will be too small to be realistically legible, however a good deal of the map is still visible along with some of the superb illustrations mentioned above. This work is much sought after.
The map itself is in a planisphere aspect meaning 'Flat Earth'. The British Isles, Europe, China, India, The Americas, Africa and Far East are all delineated in fascinating detail. Portraits of important contemporary figures and rulers are depicted on the periphery of the map. There are also illustrations of a lunar and solar eclipse in two of the corners. This is an immense work and truly fascinating. It is sure to form an interesting conversation piece in any living room and would look stunning framed.
