This superb map was published in the Sunday News 17th Match 1946. It was created by Edwin Sunberg to help New Yorkers of Irish heritage trace their roots back to the Emerald Isle. It delineates all 32 Irish counties, 6 in Northern Ireland and the remaining 26 in the Republic of Ireland. The principle towns and cities of each county are shown in bold font. An extensive collection of surnames such as O'Grady, O'Hanlon, O'Connell, Fitzgerald, MacCarthy, O'Sullivan to name a tiny proportion are then accurately plotted throughout the map. There is a written piece in the bottom right corner giving some interesting facts such as the prefix Mac is Gaelic and means son of whereas the form Fitz again meaning son of is derived from Latin and brought to Irish shores by the Normans.
This fantastically detailed map is of great interest to anyone with Irish roots and may help with ancestral research.
I have spent a deal of time in renovating this map to digitally repair staining and tears, the quality of this map is second to none.
